Tom McCarthy’s first directorial debut tells the story of a man named Fin (Peter Dinklage) born with dwarfism, who, after his only friend dies, moves to rural New Jersey to live a life of solitude. However, he quickly finds himself reluctantly becoming involved in the lives of his neighbours, Joe (Bobby Cannavale), an incessantly chatty hot dog vendor and Olivia (Patricia Clarkson, the family-doctor/psychologist in “Lars and the Real Girl”), a woman dealing with her own personal loss. The film traces the development of their growing friendship, which is sometimes problema- tic and sometimes exhilarating, and reflects the trials and tribulations of what it means to be a human being. The Station Agent has often been described as sweet and quirky, but it is also both funny and moving.
